Tommy Dorsey

A film was made starring Liza Minelli and Robert DeNiro. The producer put out a call for a trombonist to portray Tommy Dorsey.  In Bill Tole they found a professional trombone player, who not only understood the era in history, but whose band could play as sweet as Dorsey. Tole not only had the musical credentials to land the part, but looked the part of that "sentimental gentleman" in the 1977 release NEW YORK, NEW YORK.

Upon completion of the film, the Bill Tole Orchestra recorded their version of the movie sound track, entitled "Music from New York, New York" for Calliope Records. The 90’s brought two new recordings on compact disc and cassette "Big Band On the Move"  and the most recent release  "Big Band Memories".
